Campus ASSIST Roles

ASSIST is a cooperative effort of California's public higher education institutions; every California Community College, California State University campus, and University of California campus participates in ASSIST. Here's a quick description of what each campus does in ASSIST.

Community Colleges

Identify ASSIST Campus Manager

Each year the chief student services officer on each campus is asked to identify someone as the official ASSIST manager at the campus.

Maintain Curriculum Data

An accurate database of basic curricular information is essential for accurate articulation. Campuses are asked to use the ASSIST Curriculum Update System each term to provide information about new courses, courses that are no longer taught, and changes to existing courses.

Universities

Enter and Maintain Articulation in ASSIST

The most important aspect of the universities' participation in ASSIST is the entry and maintenance of articulation into ASSIST. Articulation entry is done online using software provided by ASSIST. ASSIST is recognized as the official statewide database of articulation and transfer information; each university campus is expected to have all of their current, valid articulation entered in ASSIST.

ASSIST Campus Managers

Community College ASSIST Manager

Communicate with ASSIST Coordination Site staff

When questions arise concerning courses or articulation, it is important to have a single point of contact on each campus. We also ask for input on various issues as they arise.

Coordinate curriculum updates

Each term campuses are asked to update their curriculum data in ASSIST. Managers often do this entry themselves or supervise other staff doing the data entry.

Promote use of ASSIST on campus

Campus ASSIST Managers are asked to encourage students, counselors, faculty and others to understand and use ASSIST. Promoting ASSIST could also include flyers, posters, ads in campus publications, or other ideas.

Coordinate campus staff training and act as a resource for campus users

Campus ASSIST Managers should be familiar enough with ASSIST to help others use it and answer basic questions about ASSIST.

Coordinate integration of campus & ASSIST Web resources

Campus Web sites, especially Transfer Center and Counseling pages, are excellent places for links to ASSIST. Campus ASSIST Managers are asked to coordinate implementing these links.
